This study uses a single measure to evaluate the prevalence, frequency, severity and perpetrators of domestic violence across dating, cohabiting, and married relationships.  It finds that violence is most frequent and severe in cohabiting relationships, and that in all forms of relationships, it is most common for violence to be perpetrated by both partners, with male-only domestic violence being the least common.
