This paper examines the impact of neighbourhood composition on adult outcomes for young women and finds that past research on this subject overstates the effect of neighbourhood factors. While it acknowledges that neighbourhoods do play a role in educational, fertility, and economic outcomes for young people, it argues that more significant factors are family background and structure.
