This article uses Swedish data to assess the effects of a twin birth on mothers' subsequent childbearing.  It finds that, although mothers of twins tend to postpone a second birth longer than other mothers, their patterns of further childbearing remain similar.  The authors also document an increase in the rate of twin births over time, which they attribute to an increase in the use of fertility-stimulating treatments.
