This study examines the relationship between fertility and educational attainment in the developing world over a period of several decades.   The author finds that, although overall fertility rates in the developing world are declining, there are substantial differentials within populations, as those women with higher levels of education generally have much lower fertility rates than those with little or no education.  He concludes that the educational composition of a country is a key determinant of its overall fertility level.
