This paper looks at the extent of suicide in Canada, the factors that contribute to suicidal tendencies, and the preventative measures available. The research indicates that there are a number of factors contributing to suicidal desires such as those relating to unemployment, economic hardship, substance abuse, terminal illness, life experiences (death of a loved one), culture, and psychiatric disorders. This paper also discusses legislation pertaining to suicide and it concludes by suggesting areas in need of further study.
