This study investigated the ways in which having a pregnant or parenting teenage sibling affected younger brothers and sisters. It found that having a pregnant teen sibling had an effect on such factors as younger siblings' perceptions of acceptability and desirability of early, non-marital childbearing; behaviour; beliefs about the importance of education and a career; self-esteem; and perceptions about the appropriate age of first sexual encounter. Differences were found for male and female siblings.
