This report uses family data from abducted and non-abducted children to investigate the effects of age, race, family size, and level of family violence on the risk of experiencing a family abduction.  It finds that these factors have a significant effect on children's risk, and that a recent divorce or separation is associated with the risk of more serious abductions.
