This paper provides evidence that increasing child support liability for non-custodial parents significantly reduces rates of parental divorce and separation in the United Kingdom.  Furthermore, it finds that rates of marital dissolution would be especially low if child support payments were determined based on the non-custodial parent's income, as opposed to the combined incomes of both parents.
