This study examines paternal involvement with children among fathers of non-marital children who voluntarily acknowledge their paternity.  It finds that, compared to fathers whose paternity is adjudicated, these fathers are more likely to pay child support and tend to make larger financial contributions.  Differences in the personal characteristics of these two categories of unmarried fathers are also discussed, as they may contribute to differing child support levels.
