This study examines the effect of single parenthood on adolescent behaviours and finds that youth living with a single mother are more likely than other teens to drink, smoke, and initiate sexual activity.  They are also less likely to graduate from high school or to attend college.  Its findings suggest, however, that youth who live with a single mother and at least one grandparent have outcomes that are as good as the children of married parents.
