Orbitofrontal Cortex Tracks Positive Mood in Mothers Viewing Pictures of their Newborn Infants

Neurologists in this study found that first-time mothers, when presented with pictures of their infants, exhibited more brain activity in the frontal cortex of the brain responsible for the function of mood and emotion than when presented with pictures of unfamiliar infants.  Neurologists say that individual variations in the activation of this brain region may reflect an important dimension of maternal attachment.
