This paper discusses the negative child outcomes associated with exposure to social, economic, demographic and physical risk factors.  Specific risks considered include economic hardship, low levels of maternal education, low parental skill, welfare status, and large family size.  These risks are shown to be associated with poor performance in school, poor mental health, and increased behavioural problems.
