This paper explores the valuable economic contribution made by older Australians in the form of volunteer work and unpaid caring for members of their own household and extended family.  The authors challenge negative perceptions of an aging society, arguing that the costs associated with an aging population do not take into account the estimated $39 billion contribution made by seniors in the form of unpaid volunteering and caregiving.
