This article looks at patterns of children's reunification with their biological family after being placed in foster care.  It finds that, although reunification is a primary goal of the child welfare system, the reunification process takes longer than it did in the past, with the likelihood of reunification affected by the children's age and race.  It argues that policies and practices need to be implemented to ensure safe and stable reunified families.
