This study looked at the effectiveness of police officers laying serious charges against offenders in cases of wife assault.   It surveyed 90 women in London, Ontario and found that laying criminal charges led to decreased violence and increased victim satisfaction.  It suggested that the approach taken by this city might serve as a model for other areas.
