This paper examines the role of personal income and socioeconomic status on the breakdown of recently formed marital and non-martial unions in the Netherlands.  It finds that risk of relationship dissolution is higher when the female partner's earnings are high, the male's income is low, or the male is unemployed.  It also discusses differences and similarities between married and cohabiting couples.
