This paper examines how parenting and peer relationships contribute to youth crime by acting as mediators between economic hardship and delinquency. It argues that neighbourhood composition and socio-economic status are significant precursors to adolescent criminal behaviour when combined with poor parenting, a lack of supervision and discipline, and the negative influence of peer groups.
