This paper examines the importance of child support in single-parent families, major problems of the child support system, and ways in which state programs can improve the situation.  It also discusses the effect that both financial and emotional support from fathers has on a child's outcomes, arguing that the more extensive role a father plays, the more positive his offspring's outcomes.
