This paper looks at changes between 1961 and 1999 in the extent to which an individual’s income was affected by parental characteristics such as income, education, socio-economic status, ethnicity, geographic location, occupation, and marital status.  It finds that there was an overall increase in inequality based on parental socio-economic status, but that racial and location disparities decreased over this period.
