Using the Longitudinal Administrative Databank (LAD), this paper attempts to understand “the nature of the hardship associated with the poverty experience” by examining whether poverty is a brief experience or a long-term experience.  It also examines the nature of an individual's entry into and exit out of poverty, factors that influence income changes, and various other variables affecting Canadians  between 1992 and 1996.
