This paper examines income mobility among older people living in Britain and Germany in the 1990s and discusses personal characteristics and live events that influence this mobility.  It finds that income mobility is more pronounced in Britain than in Germany, and that in both countries it is associated with changes in living arrangements, employment status, and marital status.
