This report examines the financial costs of children for two-parent and single-parent families in the United States for the year 2003. To estimate the cost, it looks at expenditures for housing, food, transportation, clothing, health care, education, child care, and miscellaneous goods and services.  It finds that a single child from a two-parent household cost between $9,510 and $10,560 in 2003.
