This report updates past data on the financial costs of children for two-parent and single-parent families in the United States in 2001.  To estimate the costs, it looks at expenditures for housing, food, transportation, clothing, health care, education, child care, and miscellaneous goods and services.  It finds that a single child from a two-parent household cost between $9,030 and $10,140 in 2001.
