This paper seeks to explain the increased inequality in weekly earnings in Canada in the 1980s.  It concludes that factors such as increased competitive pressure, changes in the power structure between workers and firms, increased mobility of companies, greater openness to international trade, and changing cost of labour and training are responsible for these trends.
