This study examines the living arrangements of adults aged 60 and over in 16 African countries.  An important finding of this study was that those living in countries with high levels of AIDS-related mortality are more likely to be living with grandchildren but no children.  The authors suggest that having to raise their grandchildren due to parental mortality may have an adverse effect on the living situation of older adults.
