This paper discusses the social and economic factors that will affect government expenditure on the ageing population in Australia.  These factors include changes in the life expectancies and health of the elderly, age of retirement, savings and assets of the elderly, and types of care required.  The author also suggests research tools and methods that might be useful in examining these factors.
