This article explores the dynamics of child poverty in the United States in the 1990s.  It outlines the demographic characteristics of poor children and discusses factors which contribute to poverty, including low parental education, parental unemployment, and minority racial or ethnic heritage.  It finds that child poverty has lessened in this country during the period under consideration, although statistical measurements continue to underestimate the number of poor children.
