Substance Abuse and Learning Disabilities: Peas in a Pod or Apples and Oranges?

This paper demonstrates that a variety of factors place children with learning disabilities at greater risk of substance abuse later in life, and argues that early intervention is necessary in order to reduce this risk.  It shows that factors such as low self-esteem, depression, social exclusion and the desire for acceptance, academic difficulty, and loneliness can plague these children and place them at greater risk.
