Using a variety of past research and studies, this paper assesses the experiences of special needs children, and the social and economic challenges they face.  It outlines the various disability types, and looks at the characteristics of children with special needs, including their family structure, parent's level of education, household income, and place of birth. It also looks at the nature of their friendships and school experiences, and finds that children with disabilities face a high risk of social exclusion.
