Readiness for School: A Survey of State Policies and Definitions

This study provides US data about determining school readiness in children. Findings suggest that (1) age is the most common assessment tool for entrance into kindergarten, (2) states have inconsistent definitions of school readiness, (3) issues about school readiness are being researched in some states, and (4) assessment of school readiness is often made by local school districts.
