This paper compares the American high school drop-out rates for 1982 and 1992 and looks at how the changing demographics of high school students may have impacted students’ educational attainment. It finds that, despite increasing rates of poverty, teen pregnancy, and family breakdown during this period, the US saw an overall decline in drop-out rates.
