This article discusses the negative impact of welfare reform on adolescents whose mothers left welfare and returned to the workforce.  Negative effects included declining school performance, poor classroom behaviour, increased smoking, drinking and drug use, and increased delinquency.  Possible explanations for these findings are offered.
