Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth (NLSCY), this report examines the “pre-adolescent problem behavior” of children ages 10 and 11, in order to understand early offending and potential intervention strategies. The findings show that the children who are most aggressive describe themselves as experiencing poor family relationships, negative relationships with friends, parental rejection, unfair treatment by teachers, and mean comments and bullying by other children.
