This paper examines the extent to which divorced and never-married people marry individuals with a similar marital history to their own.  It demonstrates that there is a trend in this direction, but that it has weakened over time as divorce is increasingly seen as acceptable, and is no longer associated with a lower social status.  The role that cohabitation has played in this trend is also considered.
