Using data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth, this paper explores the expansion of family networks after parental separation as adults enter new unions. The report also examines how children perceive their biological parents after separation and how they adapt to the stepparents. The authors of the report argue that family law does not adequately reflect these growing family forms.
