This paper discusses the economic benefits of marriage and the impact of family composition on children. Divorce, separation, cohabitation, and single-parenting are found to be root causes of poverty and income disparity, as are low levels of parental education. This paper also makes recommendations for sustaining families and promoting marriage and relational stability .
