This paper discusses the history of the belief that family structure has no impact on child well-being.  The authors state that most family scholars today have come to believe that family strucutre actually does affect child well-being.  The authors believe that researchers originally downplayed the negative effects of divorce and single-parenting for fear that children and parents would be stigmatized.
