This paper examines personal factors that influence men's and women's decisions to pursue post-secondary education as adults.  It finds that the desire for a career change is a common reason for returning to school among both men and women, and that women are more likely to return to school after experiencing divorce, while men are more likely to pursue higher education if they have served in the military.
