This article explores the possibility that the documented effect of spouses' socioeconomic status on divorce risk varies with marriage duration.  Its findings suggest that the relatively high rates of divorce among poorly educated, low income couples are specific to marriages of short duration.  In contrast, other economic factors, such as employment and high female income, seem to affect all couples regardless of income.
