This article discusses non-lifestyle-related factors that may place certain youth at a greater risk of violent victimization than others.  These factors include the perceived vulnerability of the victim, due to physical or psychological weakness; perceived gratifiability, as in the choice of a female target for sexual assault; and the hostility of an offender towards a potential victim because of his/her behaviours, ethnicity, or group identity.
