This paper examines the distinction between 'stereotypical' abductions, in which children are kidnapped by strangers and kept for a long period of time, and 'legal-definition' abductions, which usually are characterized by forcible sexual assault or occur in a context of violence.  The authors suggest that more attention needs to paid to preventing the abduction by non-family member of those at risk for sexual assault.
