This paper reviews existing research relating to sexual assault in rural communities in Australia, and discusses the particular challenges faced both by non-urban victims of assault and those who try to help them. It outlines the prevalence and nature of assault in rural communities, discusses some options for intervention, and outlines some barriers to reporting and disclosure.
