This study reports that nearly three out of ten Canadians over the age of 15 were victimized in the year leading up to the 2004 General Social Survey on victimization. The report concludes that past victimization affects a person’s perception of personal safety and the police. Women tend towards precautionary measures more than men after being victimized. The General Social Survey is collected yearly by Statistics Canada.
