The author challenges popular notions that crime can be effectively reduced by poverty reduction policies, or by stricter criminal laws. Instead the author supports a restorative justice paradigm that addresses the needs of victims, uses wise sentencing practices, reforms prisons, and makes use of community-based programs and prevention initiatives.
