This paper provides information from the National Incidence-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) on the incidence of kidnaping, including the characteristics of perpetrators and victims, and the relationship of kidnaping to other crimes.  It also looks at trends in the time and location of kidnaping and the use of weapons.  It highlights three distinct categories of kidnappers: family members, acquaintances, and strangers.
