This study explores men's identity as fathers while incarcerated as well as their level of involvement with their children.  Researchers found that men's involvement with their children was often completely dependent on nonincarcerated mothers and that this, as well as other factors such as not being able to financial support or protect children while incarcerated, contributed to feelings of powerlessness among fathers.
