This report reviews state laws pertaining to the death penalty, and provides a profile of inmates who were sentenced to death and executed in 2001. Information is included on offenders' sex, race, ethnicity, education, marital status, age, and legal status at time of first arrest for a capital offense. The method of execution and length of time between sentencing and execution is also included.
