Using data from the General Social Survey, this article examines perceptions of crime and safety based on behaviours like noisy neighbours and public drunkenness and drug use. The author finds diverse responses across Canada but detects a pattern when comparing Montréal, Toronto and Vancouver. The author reports a greater perception of incivility among residence in these cities that live in high density neighbourhoods and close to town centers.
