This paper discusses the consequences, prevalence, and definition of emotional abuse, outlines some common risk factors, and makes suggestions for intervention.  It argues that emotional abuse is a pervasive but elusive problem that can have serious long-term consequences for its victims.  It therefore asserts that it is important to understand this issue better and to actively respond to the needs of those that have experienced this form of abuse.
