Does Biological Relatedness Affect Survival?

This paper studies child survival in a Ugandan community in which many children are either orphaned or in foster care arrangements.  It finds that child survival is highest when children live with their birth parents.  When children live with adults other than their parents, the closer the biological relationship the higher the chances of survival are.
